Tree Graffiti - JR (Kent Street).
Tuesday, May 08, 2007, 12:49 PM

Dear Diary - make your mark on the world...even if it is only temporary...

redeye Look closely at the smooth bark of the Kent Street trees...there are secrets and semaphores, ciphers and symbols...hidden truths and declarations of being in the knots and whorls of the grainy flesh and flaking skin...

yellowsound The moment I am prepared to click my shutter I am distracted by the ostinato drone of a passing street cleaner...halfway through its passage a helicopter picks up on the tune and sings along...

Listen to a sound bite from this location...
(*.mp3 format, 940KB)

greensmell I can smell the particles of dust kicked up by the street sweeper...it mingles with a waft of metallic ozone produced by the sweeper's bristles brushing against the bluestone guttering...

bluetouch Overall, this tree's bark is smooth, yet every now and then I am disturbed by unexpected imperfections...here and there pieces flake off like chunks of dandruff to my touch...

purpletaste I can taste the sweet, woody tang of the tree's bark...the subtle tannic aftertaste of a fine wooded wine...

Tree Graffiti - DW.
Saturday, April 02, 2005, 2:35 PM

Dear Diary - here's one more tree graffiti - this one probably comes the closest to a romantic duo of lovers' initials, but the only really clear initials on the tree are the DW, the other two being difficult to make out on the actual tree since it seems to be suffering from some tree equivalent of elephantitis and skin rash…

Tree Graffiti - MOM.
Saturday, April 02, 2005, 2:01 PM

Dear Diary - here's another fine example of tree graffiti. Admittedly there's an element of romance in it with the heart for the o/u in mum BUT it seems to be more a play on the cliche of the MOM tattoo…

Tree Graffiti - ?…4 HELL.
Saturday, April 02, 2005, 1:50 PM

Dear Diary - I find it interesting the things people scratch and dig into the surfaces of trees. I went on the hunt today, epecting to find a whole lot of love heart style defacings only to discover not much in the way of romantic tree graffiti and more enigmatic stylings such as this one. Couldn't quite work out what was trying to be said here…if you have any ideas feel free to hit the contact button and email me your thoughts…
